Grandma Rosie grew up on a farm in Eastern Iowa in the 1930's and worked to perfect her whole grain wheat bread recipe over several decades. Once married, Rosie and her husband had 8 children and her bread became a favorite staple of the entire family. Rosie always made bag lunches for her husband and kids. Prior to making wheat bread, her husband commented that the store bought bread never really filled him up, but after switching to her wheat bread, that made for a satifying meal. Rosie would often give her bread as gifts to friends and relatives, and to those in need. When the church had fundraisers, her bread was sold out in the first few minutes of each event as people knew how delicious it was. Grandma Rosie has passed her recipe on to her kids and grandkids who are carrying on her legacy.
One of Grandma Rosie's sons and his wife in Michigan have been making her bread for their own use, but would like others to enjoy this treat. We have no plans to be a full blown commercial bakery, but luckily Michigan has a "Cottage Industry" law which allows people to bake bread in their home's kitchen, and sell directly to end consumers. We cannot sell online nor in stores, so we will be starting off at farmer's markets in Whitehall and/or Muskegon, MI in spring/summer 2024. If things go well, we may expand to selling out of our home.
